Muhammad Ali, one of America’s greatest boxing legends, has been admitted to the hospital with respiratory issues. The 75 year old ex heavyweight champion has been reported as being in a ‘fair’ condition.

Spokesman Bob Gunnell stated, “Ali, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is being treated by his team of doctors and is in fair condition, a brief hospital stay is expected. At this time, the Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy.” He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s three years after his retirement in 1981.

Ali has been hospitalized several times over the recent years. He was sent to the hospital twice in 2014 and 2015 where he was diagnosed with a severe urinary tract infection that was initially thought to be pneumonia.

As of late he has had a more private profile and stayed out of the limelight. His last public appearance was in April in Arizona at the ‘Celebrity Fight Night’ gala. The gala supports the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, named after him.

He’s received support on social media from other prominent boxers. Sugar Ray Leonard tweeted, “Prayers & blessings to my idol, my friend, & without question, the Greatest of All Time @MuhammadAli ! #GOAT.”
