On Thursday evening, when Ivanka Trump walked onto the stage at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, sporting a blush sheath, the sigh of relief that someone so in the spotlight would wear something so classy was palpable. After eight years of designer mistakes, mangled jewels, and arms built by iron, to see this was refreshing.
Little did the country know that this woman was showing off one of the skills she inherited from her father: a stunningly astute business marketing savvy. The billionaire’s daughter was wearing an offering from her own clothing line. This particular dress retails for $138 at stores like Macy’s, places where the masses of the middle class shop. The shoes were also from her own collection.
And, as it turns out, Ivanka wore her own label all week!
The entrepreneur was also sporting her own designs — $158 off-white dress, $135 black suede pumps and her own considerably pricier precious jewelry — in the Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday night, when photographers shot her pointing toward her father’s nemesis Ted Cruz.
While her step-mother Melania and sister Tiffany wore clothing made by much pricier designers – all purchased, not made as a favor, and they all wore their own jewelry – Ivanka still managed to pull off the rich, sophisticated look that Americans haven’t seen from politicians’ families in quite some time. Much like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Ivanka manages to make common folk clothing look completely uncommon, even with a figure that is not model-like. (No model has a bustline that full.)
But most of all, the business woman knows a good opportunity to get free marketing and advertising when she can get it. The fashion world is always wildly curious about what the women in politics wear. They report on it regularly. The resulting publicity is of a caliber that money can’t buy.
Smart girl, just like her dad.
